A non-denominational, non-profit sewing ministry hosted by the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, meeting the needs of tiny premature infants and healing and binding together the hearts of parents when they have lost an infant. Currently serving premature infants born at:
St. David's North Austin Medical Center St. David's Round Rock Medical Center University Medical Center at Breckenridge Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas
The Heart of
Texas Chapter of Threads of Love meets every Tuesday during the
school year at the sewing room in the Parish Hall of the Episcopal
Church of the Resurrection, 2208 Justin Lane, Austin,
Membership consists of about 35 women and 5
brave and talented men. Most Tuesdays a group of up to 15 members
gather to work and have fellowship in the Threads of Love sewing
room in the ECR Parish Hall. Membership does not require attending
meetings or working in the sewing room and so, many members work
at home at their own pace. Basic sewing is taught as well as
knitting and crochet. Sign up for classes. Handmade items that we
make include caps, blankets, gowns, quilts, laundry bags, crib
angels and Baby Notes Journal for the premature infants and we
make burial garments and bereavement items for those infants too
tiny or sick to survive. In addition we make a comfort pillow for
the mothers who have C-Section delivery. Another important
part of our sewing involves making developmental support
items which aid in shaping tiny heads and support tiny arms and
legs. Many times the only item touching the baby for the first
weeks of its life is made by Threads of Love.
